About The Lake
Sunset
Lake is located 3 1/2 miles west of Girard, IL., off of Emmerson
Airline. It is a 173-acre lake that offers excellent fishing,
boating, swimming and skiing or tubing. It is governed by 9
elected Board of Directors, the Superintendent and Corporate Secretary.
The lake dam was built in 1955-1956, and became a private lake in 1963.
The average depth of the lake is 16' and 40' deep near the dam.
The lake maintains approximately 10 miles of private roads around the
lake. The Association leases lots to the members on a 99 year lease.
The 99 year lease renews each time that the lease transfers.
The monthly meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at
7:00pm. The Annual Membership Meeting is held the third Thursday
in October. The Board prepares a Budget for the membership to
approve, and they elect new officers (See Bylaws Section 1 under
meeting).
The Association maintains a Community Center, consisting of the
Office and Hanauer Hall, plus a garage located off Emmerson at 30505
East Lake Dr. Hanauer Hall was dedicated to Robert Hanauer,
without whom, there wouldn't be a Community Center. Members
can reserve and rent the Hall for a $50.00 fee.
The lake was dredged in
1994 and a Rip Rap Program is on-going to prevent silt from running into
the lake. There is also an on-going Sanitation Program in place to
safeguard the health of the lake and the membership who uses it.
The lake water is tested at least 3 times a year to ensure that it is safe for
all. Additionally chlorine bottles are used on all septic systems
for additional quality control measures. The chlorine
bottles are inspected 2 -3 times a year to maintain 100% compliance.
The lake association consists of 318 lots and 279 members. 60% of the members are full time residents.
Other members come from all
over the State of Illinois and a few from outside the State. Local
or not, all are welcome!
